Stop 1 Saint Emidio Cathedral

The first stop is the Saint Emidio Cathedral, where we can admire the splendid “polittico” (Altarpiece artwork done in panels) from 1473 as well as the tombs underneath the church. The cathedral is home to some of the most striking religious statues in Italy. These awe-inspiring sculptures were created to honor Jesus Christ and the saints.

Stop 2 Piazza del Popolo

Leaving the cathedral and still in Piazza Arringo, we enter the Palazzo del Comune (City Hall) that was built in the 14th Century. A few steps away is the Piazza del Popolo. This is considered the “living room” of Ascoli Piceno and one of the most extraordinary piazzas in Italy. The splendor of medieval and renaissance styles blending together is fascinating to witness. Across the piazza, we will visit the imposing Captain’s Palace which was the head of the judiciary since 1200 AD.

Stop 3 Ponte Romano

This is a bridge built by the Romans 2400 years ago that is still in use today. From there we can take a stroll up the Via Delle Stelle and enjoy the views of the river below.

Stop 4 San Giacomo

This is the oldest neighborhood where we can see how life was like in the 1500’s and walk down narrow cobbled streets.

Stop 5 Lunch

We’ll have light lunch at one of the caffe’s in Piazza del Popolo After lunch you’ll be taken to the hotel for a rest. In the late afternoon we’ll plan a visit to a local point of interest and then dinner.
