Embark on a captivating journey to the grottos nestled in the breathtaking Gorges of Salinello. Perched high above a winding river, these ancient dwellings offer a glimpse into life as it was 12,000 years ago. The grottos not only reveal the earliest traces of human habitation, but also the remarkable evolution of culture and technology through the ages.
From Stone Age relics of offerings to the Earth, believed to be the source of all life, to Bronze Age innovations such as the first terraces of cultivation and early cheese-making, these caves are a living timeline of human progress. As we move forward to the Middle Ages, we encounter the marks left by Christian hermits—evidenced by ancient bread-making techniques and a shift in spiritual focus from earth to sky.
This tour is more than a visit to ancient sites; it’s a walk through millennia of human history, offering insights into how our ancestors lived, worshiped, and thrived.
